There is something special about Bexley homes. Their history, craftsmanship, and character set them apart from others. Each one has its own personality and story. Renovations and remodels done by each generation of residents, squeaks and scratches where original floors remain, and memories made with neighbors and friends make them unique. Whenever someone moves into a home in Bexley, other residents are eager to know which home it is and happy to share who lived there through the years and their favorite experiences with them. It is one of the many special things about Bexley that binds us together.

My family and I are grateful to feel that tie to our home and community. The home we live in was built in 1927 and owned by Leo Yassenoff, a commercial construction business owner and prominent philanthropist. He built our local Jewish Community Center, among others. I often wonder what he and his wife thought about the home back then and what they would think about it now. There are countless original details in our home that we appreciate. The windows, wainscoting, moldings, and mantels were all skillfully constructed and give our home old world character.

While we make improvements to the home each year, that is something we try to preserve. We appreciate the craftsmanship and beauty of it and hope to pass that along to the next generation. Each time I design and decorate an interior, I try to preserve its legacy while making the space feel like home to the current owners. Houses need to be modernized, but they can be updated in a way that is relevant to the style, so that it flows. As owners of Bexley homes, we are caretakers of history and have the honor of preserving their defining characteristics and what makes them uniquely Bexley.
